I recently revisited Gabriel García Márquez’s classic novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude, and heard there’s a new TV show coming out based on that story.
It got me thinking about how most of us get antsy after just a few days alone, let alone a century.
But certain personalities seem perfectly comfortable in extended solitude — they enjoy their own company, turn inward for creative inspiration, or simply find peace in quiet environments.
When I imagine surviving “100 years of solitude,” I don’t picture a literal century isolated from humanity.
I think about everyday life—those weekends when everyone’s busy, the late nights spent reading or daydreaming, or even prolonged stretches when we’re working on personal projects behind the scenes.
Some zodiac signs adapt more easily to this sort of alone time, using it to explore their thoughts, cultivate new ideas, or simply recharge.
With that in mind, here are 4 zodiac signs I believe could thrive if they had to navigate a long period of solitude.
I’ve always felt that Scorpios carry a mysterious aura about them. They’re deeply emotional yet keep much of that intensity hidden, like a secret well of energy.
If anyone can handle long stretches of solitude, it’s a sign that actually enjoys diving into their own psyche.
Being alone for days—or even months—allows Scorpio to explore personal interests without distraction.
I know several Scorpios who vanish into a hobby or project, completely losing track of time. They’ll emerge later with new insights, having processed emotions and experiences that would leave others overwhelmed.
Carl Jung once noted that confronting our own “shadow” is a key part of personal growth.
Scorpios do that naturally.
They aren’t afraid to face their darker feelings, and they often view solitude as a chance to work through inner turmoil. This willingness to go deep helps them withstand loneliness and even find purpose in it.
That intensity can be a double-edged sword.
Some days, Scorpio might push loved ones away, retreating into a mental cave for self-reflection.
But if the question is who could spend a century exploring the depths of their own psyche, Scorpio stands out as a strong candidate for thriving in solitude.
Capricorns have a reputation for self-reliance and ambition, which might not scream “loner” at first. But I’ve noticed they’re quite happy to work diligently behind closed doors for as long as it takes to meet their goals.
If you ask a Capricorn what they’re up to on a quiet Sunday, they might say something like, “Finishing a personal project” or “Planning for the future.”
They view solitary time as an opportunity to refine their skills or build toward a long-term dream.
While others might crave constant social stimulation, a Capricorn can bunker down and stay on track.
Their sense of responsibility also plays into this.
When there’s an important deadline or milestone in sight, Capricorns have no problem turning off the phone, ignoring the outside world, and focusing solely on the task at hand.
To them, solitude isn’t a burden — it’s a strategic choice.
As someone who’s studied psychology, I’d argue that many Capricorns fit the mindset of delayed gratification—embracing short-term sacrifice for long-term success.
Spending extended periods alone might even be preferable for them, since fewer distractions mean more progress. That resilience makes them perfect candidates for outlasting solitude and emerging with something meaningful to show for it.
Aquarians march to the beat of their own drum.
They’re the innovators, the forward-thinkers, and often the ones with unusual hobbies or peculiar research topics.
If you locked an Aquarius in a library for months, they’d likely see it as a chance to learn everything about a random subject—from quantum physics to medieval art.
Because they’re independent by nature, Aquarius folks generally aren’t bothered by social expectations to always be “out and about.”
They might even find typical social norms restrictive.
In solitude, they can fully embrace their curiosity—watching lectures, brainstorming new inventions, or simply daydreaming about how society could be improved.
Whenever I talk to an Aquarius friend, I notice they’re comfortable with unconventional ideas. That comfort extends to how they live day-to-day.
They don’t mind standing apart from the crowd, and spending time alone often feels like a creative playground rather than a punishment.
Pisces is often seen as the dreamer of the zodiac, living in a world where imagination and reality intertwine. If you were to leave a Pisces in a quiet space for long stretches, they’d likely slip into a rich, inner universe of creativity.
I’ve known Pisces who happily lose themselves in art, music, or writing for days on end. They rarely complain about having no one around.
Instead, they immerse themselves in soulful reflection — something Gabriel García Márquez fans might appreciate, given how One Hundred Years of Solitude explores family, isolation, and the magic of everyday life.
Pisces can be very empathetic, which might suggest they need social interactions. However, their empathy also drives them to absorb other people’s emotions like a sponge.
Time alone can help them reset, recharge, and prevent emotional overload.
They do have to watch out for drifting too far into daydreams and becoming disconnected from reality. But if they balance that escape with moments of practical self-care, Pisces can flourish in extended solitude.
For them, isolation can spark endless creative ideas—like writing a novel, composing music, or painting entire worlds that exist only in their minds.
Some of us see solitude as lonely or boring. Others view it as a chance for growth, introspection, or creative exploration.
When I think of “100 years of solitude,” I picture these four zodiac signs — Scorpio, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces — navigating that world with a sense of purpose rather than dread.
While no one truly wants to spend an entire century alone, we all face times when we need to rely on our own inner resources.
Observing how these signs handle extended solitude can teach us about self-sufficiency, creativity, and embracing a little peace and quiet in our everyday lives.
In the cosmic dance of the zodiac, each sign has its own unique rhythm and style when it…
